Bronze Accreditation

Bronze is the starting point for mosques beginning their sustainability journey. It focuses on practical “quick wins”, basic governance, and building an evidence pack that shows measurable progress.

Bronze Requirements

Governance & Leadership

  • Appoint a named Eco Lead (or Green Team)
  • Adopt a short Environmental Policy approved by trustees
  • Add an environment agenda item to committee meetings (at least quarterly)

Energy Basics

  • Carry out a basic energy check (bills + heating schedule + lighting review)
  • Identify “quick wins” (timers, switching off policy, draught reduction)
  • Begin moving towards a renewable electricity tariff where feasible

Water Stewardship

  • Display water-saving signage in wudu areas
  • Record a simple baseline: water bill snapshot or usage estimate
  • Commit to at least one practical step (e.g., tap aerators, leak checks)

Waste & Plastics

  • Provide clearly labelled bins (general waste + recycling)
  • Implement a policy to reduce single-use plastics at events
  • Introduce basic guidance for food waste reduction at gatherings
